A colorless fluid crucial to brain function. CSF is responsible for nutrient delivery to neurons and metabolic waste clearance via the glymphatic system. The brain floats in CSF, providing both buoyancy and protection. CSF is continously produced and reabsorbed by the brain. Disrupting this balance can cause dangerous changes in intracranial pressure (ICP) and brain blood flow leading to life-long disability if left untreated.

Managing acute CSF drainage today relies on external ventricular drains (EVD) or lumbar drains that are labor intensive for ICU nurses, miserable for patients, and inefficient for hospitals, resulting in limited access.
